First of all, I want to give the group a big hand. They did a good job. Their presentation included not only reading but also vocabulary, speaking, etc. (I thought).

I have forgotten the order, and I just could reflect what I saw. In the reading part, we got some handouts. Estella made everyone to read one sentence. In the beginning, I focused on listening to others. However, I started to count when was my turn. After that period, I didn’t understand what the article meant. As I answer the True or False questions, I needed to find the answer through the article. It was great to have every student involved in the activity but it might be better to use different ways, such as reading it on their own, or called some students to read a short paragraph.

As to activity, it was really interesting. We had some recipes, and we had some time to guess what they were. Then, we needed to go outside to find the names of those foods. I enjoyed playing it. It motivated me to cooperate with group members and tried to find out the answers. That was so great. Moreover, Estella had a very good visual aid. She gave us the clear pictures of the recipes and told us some information about them.

In that period, I really had a good time to experience how to teach reading, and they did a good job.

In addition, I would like to mention one method that Alice gave us. We got an article and had a worksheet. When we finished reading, we needed to fill in some blanks. Those answers were not only based on the article but also from our imagination. It was from easy to hard. That was a good way to give students a different experience to train their reading. That really enlightened me to start thinking how to use different activities to teaching reading. I wish that I will find them out.

In the beginning of teaching part, the teacher, Tim, was so funny. He tried to let us use different language to translate the dialogue. Then, he asked us some questions about the dialogue. After that, he led us into the main theme—invitation card. We needed to tell the differences of formats between English and Chinese. It was right to have students to recognize the differences by themselves. On one hand, students could know the new things about how to write a card in English. On the other hand, they might not be confused Chinese format with English one. By the way, we got much money (fake). It was great to get something that tried to motivate students. However, it needed to be fair. At first, we liked to talk eagerly. The teacher followed his inclinations. He gave what he wanted. Then, some students didn’t speak that much. The system of rewards should be fixed.

They really did a good job. I appreciated that they taught it step by step. They had a complete content and structure.

A long time ago, one of my teachers played an English teaching video of Fu Hsing. It was a Video Conference. Fu Hsing provided students to take opportunities to talk to foreigners. I was surprised that they could create such a great English learning environment. It was my first impression. I was eager for some chances to visit it. Thus, my classmates who majored in different subjects and I made our minds to choose Fu Hsing as our practical school. We all knew it would be very hard. This visit would make me feel the nervous atmosphere early.

In the beginning, I thought the campus was a little small. It was totally different after coming inside. It was bigger than what I saw first. Needless to say, there were lots of places where we didn’t visit. They had perfect equipments, such as the projectors, computers, printers, etc. One special thing was the color of their lights. It made me feel soft and tender. Maybe it could help learning. Then, English teaching was the point today. Mr. Don (?) gave us the amazing statistics—near half students passed the basic exam. That proved they made mental and physical efforts to help students learning. Then, it was our observing time. Our group observed the sixth grade. That was another different system from public school. The sixth grade students have already studied the junior high school level.

Afterward, the period started. At first, Ms. Lin wrote the outline of that class to inform students what they would do. It was great that the outline not just told students some information but remind teacher of the steps. Ms. Lin created a topic, which was close to students’ lives and leaded into the lesson she taught. Most students were active and answered enthusiastically. It must take time to train students to get used to this teaching way. In this class, they had about two main activities—Q&A and Game Time. Q&A was creative. It was a small group work. Students made questions by themselves. Some were basic, and some were extended. To my surprise, one student made a question: what does a real basketball star mean? The answerer had her correct answer unexpectedly. Their thinking could go so far. They were outstanding to be questioners and answerers. They also did a good job at Game Time. It was a good activity. However, I had a suggestion. Their questions had different types and points. Ms. Lin chose questions according to its types and correctness. She has tried her best to choose the near points. Nevertheless, group A still felt unfair that Ms. Lin chose the higher score for group B. There was chaos in the end of the class. I thought it was better to let students draw out the questions. Moreover, the accuracy of questions should be noticed. The whole period was well organized. Ms. Lin controlled time properly. She must have many experiences and spend much time to prepare it.

Lastly, we had a discussion. According to the principal’s talks, I thought she made efforts in teaching, especially English teaching. She was really proud of Fu Hsing. Every teacher all prides on their students’ achievements. Their English teaching impressed me a lot. They even had an English Research Center to organize English things. They not only advanced the time of rate of progress but also made their own teaching materials, which were changed every year. In my opinion, the center was so good to support teachers. Teachers could share various ideas. But, I felt the system was a little strict. Teachers seemed to need to hand in everything about teaching. In sum, I believed the center would help teacher a lot. They valued teachers’ further education importantly. They wish teachers could learn new teaching methods and share them with others. How wonderful! No wonder some teachers have taught for thirty years.

Fu Hsing is a famous school, and it deserves the fame. They strive for everything for their students. Meanwhile, it must be very hard. Before visiting, I have prepared to accept the challenge. However, I seemed not to prepare well. Honestly, I am scared after visiting. I don’t fear toil. I’m afraid that I am not good enough. I think I need to adjust my attitude. I have to work harder and do my best to do what I need to do. I will urge myself every time.

More than a month ago, we decided to start preparing our presentation. We divided it into three parts and were responsible for one of it. In the beginning, Lisa misunderstood what I meant. We all tried to figure out iwill. Fortunately, we amended it right away.

I always feel uneasy about new things. Thus, I tried to inquire about Hot Potatoes. After I got lots of information, I was in a flurry, instead. There were too many things to understand. Therefore, I kept it away from me for a long time. After knowing I needed to do it, I started. I spent a lot of time to understand the information, and then, I tried all the functions. To be honest, it took me much time to operate them. I even felt frustrated. Fortunately, I asked
Alice some questions, and she gave me the answers and more information about Hot Potatoes. When I figure out some of them, I had three days to organize them. That was not enough. I felt nervous and blamed myself. I deserved it. Finally, I finished designing power point and some demonstrations.

After knowing one of our school visits is Taipei Municipal Zhongshan Girls High School, I started to look forward to it. Although I am not familiar with it, there is too much information that it is a superior senior high school. This would be the best opportunity to realize how this successful school works.

First, outward appearance attracted me. I like this kind of looks very much. The buildings are fill with vines, and there are some ancient architectures. The whole campus is age-old. Then, we met the principle. She gave me a strong impression. At the first sight, she was looked confident, resolute and firm. After she began to talk, she was that kind of person and she was also humorous. According to my memory, most people in charge would give the visitors a detailed description. On the contrary, the principle asked us to have three questions. When she answered the questions, she revealed that she was proud of the school. One of her points surprised me. Every classroom has projectors, and over eighty percent of teachers have notebooks. How incredible! It is totally different from other high schools. They developed different ways to assist teaching, and I believed that would help a lot. That was really a pioneering work. I thought the principles of CSGHS must work hard and try their best to manage with it. The great school can last.

Second, it came to Alice’s introduction. There were two things impressed me the most. One was the cooperation between the staff; the other was about students’ conduct. The staff seemed not just to teach, but also inspire each other. They formed great teams to share their ideas and even design new activities. They taught new techniques to those who didn’t know. They encouraged different subjects of teachers to participate in Excellent Teacher Award. It was great to build up such good relationship. Alice showed us the PowerPoint, which was made by students. Their abilities were so prominent. They still did lots of different activities. They must give themselves many pressures. Therefore, they had such great achievements. I thought that teachers also gave them assistance. Enthusiastic and devotional teachers can inspire students to learn spontaneously. In addition, patriarchs’ support is important. They provide lot of hardware to let children have a good environment.

Third, we went to the class. We were a little late. When we arrived, they have had a test. After a while, they checked answers, and Ms. Chang explained some of the new words and phrases. Then, there were three students wrote new words which were from their news stories on the board. They read their articles and gave questions. Students seemed nervous, and they read so fast. In fact, Ms. Chang prompted the answers. Nevertheless, students still did well. I was not sure if students realized those news stories or not. Next, they reviewed vocabulary taught last week. It was great that Ms. Chang asked students by sentences, instead of just the Chinese meanings. Afterwards, they proceeded listening comprehension. They needed to recognize the five statements related to which countries. They got handouts to help them to understand that. Most of students got the right answers, and they also checked some answers of the handouts. The period was over. It was a pity that I just observed a period because they seemed to do something interesting next period. In the period, I just saw the students’ work. That was not just “teacher says.” There had some homework to do by them. I considered that was a good way to train students. By the way, I thought that we were a little impolite. We just walked way as the period finished. Maybe we didn’t figure out everything in the class and tried to discuss it. However, it was discourteous. When I left the classroom, I just noticed that, and it was too late. Here, I want to say thanks to Ms. Chang.

The last but not the least, it was about sharing experiences. There were three passionate practice teachers to share their experiences. They gave us a lot of useful information, such as how to adjust our attitudes, what should be noticed and so on. The most important one is to do what you can do. Don’t shirk off. In my opinion, I also considered that I should do all I can do. If I learned new things, I would have more abilities than others. Moreover, they mentioned their career plans. Some of them didn’t want to become teachers after practical training. Actually, I am not certainly sure I want to be a formal teacher. However, they still urged us to work hard to learn something. I really appreciated their sharing. It was helpful.

The school visit enlightened me a lot. I had a different experience. I realized that how important to create an environment for students to learn, how different to improve new techniques and so forth. I started to think about what kind of teaching ways I wanted to use. Maybe I will try both traditional and innovative ways. Then, I will find my way to teach.

That day was so hot, but it was better than rainy. That was the first time to visit a junior high school, and I felt so excited and nervous. When we walked into the street, it was totally different from the busy traffic. The street was quiet, and there were lots of trees. I felt peaceful. Both sides were schools, and that would be great to this community. As I entered Fanghe Junior High School, my first impression was hoary and bright. Then, it started our visit.
I would like to talk about this visit experience for three parts.
I. About the principal’s introduction:
Principal Yang introduced us many things about the school. I realized that education includes not just teaching and learning but the government, administration, parents, etc. They made lots of efforts to improve students. In English, they have really given much thought to the matter. Although students are not many, English teachers are fewer. However, they set up many learning system and create interesting activities for students, such as singing competitions, consulting dictionaries competitions, the stage play competitions and so on. Furthermore, they had extra plans for advanced students. It was not just the end. Additionally, they had great educational hardware, for instance, drawing books, computers, e-power center, etc. How conscientious! They might strive hard for the budgets. Students are so fortune in the school.
Besides, I wanted to point out the “teaching students in accordance with their aptitude.” It could yet be regarded as a good way. They divided students for A, B, B levels. Students have the same materials, but teachers according to the levels to choose different teaching ways. It might solve the differences of different levels, and it is easier to give remedial or supplementary teaching. Even if students were separate, teachers would try their best to keep the original class. Thus, this way would not inference students learning will.
After the introduction, I have felt that all of members work hard to provide good environment for students. In addition, I found that it is vital to have a great leader to lead a successful education. Different leaders guide different ends. Principle Yang is devoted to education and then pushes every teacher to cooperate with each other. That brings the successful education.

II. About teaching part:
Before the class, some students said that they were very nervous. However, their behavior was different later. First, 秋霞老師talked in English and students also tried their best to talk in English. They had the new lesson and looked at the picture to answer some questions. To my surprise, they did a good job to answer them. They were so active. Teacher guided them to answer, repeated the answers to the whole class and supply vocabulary that they didn’t know. I thought it would cost lots of time to let students get used to this way.
Next was a small activity just like what we did in class—student A read several sentences to student B who needed to write them down. In this part, I had some questions. Did they do this activity before? 秋霞老師seemed not to give very clear instructions. Some students still kept asking how to do it. That activity came after the picture Q&A. It was related to the grammar of the lesson, but it came a little unexpectedly. Moreover, they didn’t check the answer indeed. 秋霞老師just gave those who didn’t finish the activity, and the whole class read answers. However, did every student really write the right answers? It might inference the follow-up activity.
In the teaching grammar part, it inspired me a lot. In my memory, teachers always told us the rules directly. Nevertheless, 秋霞老師gave handouts and several sentences to students. Then, 秋霞老師 guided them to sum up the comparative rules. It was truly student-centered and inductive. In that part, 秋霞老師 talked in Chinese to help students know rules much clearer. It was really considerable. She also reminded students of those words, which were confused easily. She made students practice how to change adjectives in class. It was important for students to practice right away.
In that period, it was amazing that秋霞老師 controlled time so appropriate. As she finished, the bell rang. It was systematic from introduction of the lesson to the end.

III. Others:
Principle and teachers are so nice. They are thoughtful to prepare water and snacks.
The three teachers are all passionate and talkative. In the informal discussion meeting, teachers are enthusiastic to answer our questions. That would help us a lot. I wish I will like Emily so zealous in teaching.

I got many ideas and learned more. It just what Alice said—a theory is not just a theory. It can be practiced in the class. However, it was a pity that we just heard other teachers’ illustration. We didn’t observe the real teaching situations. Nevertheless, I really brought something with me.

When groups presented their ideas about teaching vocabulary, I considered that were good ways to attract students who would learn well. However, I realized that interesting games were not enough after Alice demonstrated her way. High school students still need to learn the basic rules, such as pronunciation, meaning/spelling, collocation and so on. I remembered that I went to a junior high school for extra student counseling. The student was the second year. As I saw his textbook, I felt so familiar that he used the Chinese phonetic symbols to imitate the sound of vocabulary. There might be some students used that way, but it was not good. When I was a freshman in junior high school, my English teacher didn’t care the vocabulary and just left out. I tried to remember all words and used to use the Chinese phonetic symbols. After a while, I knew it was bad. I couldn’t memorize them really and usually forgot what’s the meaning. Thus, it’s better to give students the bases first.

That day, most of us tried to create new activities but forgot the basic. Alice reminded me that the foundation is the most important.

When I read the materials about Ten Language Teach Approaches, I felt surprised that there were so many teach approaches which could really practice in class and it did. I am a person with a very limited outlook and experience. After read them, I started to think what kind of approaches that I wanted to use? Single one or mixed ones?
I prefer to choose some traits from the ten approaches. First, I like Affective-Humanistic Approach, such as respect, class atmosphere and so on. It’s vital for teachers and students to respect each other. If teachers were just autocratic, students would not learn happily and only accepted what teachers gave them. It’s helpful to create learning atmosphere. As a learner, I consider that I might learn happily and effectively in the good environment.
I like Cognitive Approach, too. I agree with some descriptions of it. “ Errors are viewed as inevitable.” When we learn something new, we would make some mistakes. We can’t expect everyone is good at everything. Furthermore, even a genius will commit something wrong. Another description is “ learners are responsible for their own learning.” Although teachers need to provide students learning help, students’ aspirations are keys to learn.
Maybe I need to think what I need and what I want to add to my teaching. However, above is what I got so far. I will keep thinking.

Most of the time, I always think about whether to be a teacher or not. Furthermore, am I suitable to be a teacher? What kind of teacher I want to be? I seem to ignore it so far.

One of my friends wants to a “bad” teacher. “Bad” means serious and strict here. Thus, a “bad” teacher is for students, but is a “good” teacher for parents. Because he thinks that most students are passive, he needs to push them to study hard. If he were kind, students would not follow him and might violate rulers. In that way, students couldn’t learn well. Therefore, he considers that a strict teacher will be a good and effective way to teach and manage students. In my opinion, it might work in grades, but students might have antagonistic feelings.

After thinking, I might want to be a teacher, who is easy-going, open-minded, energetic and “principled”. I long for a students’ friend, and I wish it would help to close to students. However, I consider that a teacher needs to insist some principles. A teacher can be kind to students, but still has to keep a distance from students. When I had a part-time job in a cram school last year, I tried to be a “kind” teacher who let the students have their own way. After a period, the students became absolutely lawless. No matter how I wanted to remedy it, the students didn’t obey the rules anyway. That way almost drove me crazy. It was a bad experience. Therefore, I want to be a kind teacher, and I will insist my rules. In addition, I wish that I would give students something good in their lives.
